Fundraising & events

We truly believe we have the best supporters around. Whether wearing one of our branded hoodies, raising funds with a Project Lighthouse sponsored cycle ride, running the Great North Run or popping along to the annual Worth Valley Supporters Group Summer Fayre in Haworth, our supporters have seemingly endless stores of energy and ideas to raise funds and spread the word about ABOAB.

Fundraising covers the costs incurred by our generous property owners who gift their property for free and we make a donation to cover their cleaning, laundry and heating costs. In some special circumstances we cover the full cost of a break, when a guest needs to get away urgently or needs specialist accommodation and additional support. 

Our supporters do seem to be fond of an adventure, but then our founder Angela Sturgeon had the idea for ABOAB while on a cycling holiday in Ireland with her family during treatment for ovarian cancer.

When Ange died in 2016, her family and friends picked up the baton and have kept her spirit and memory alive with a steady stream of cycle rides, Christmas craft evenings and other gatherings and adventures all in the name of ABOAB. You don’t need to be a runner, cyclist or love an ultra-hike through the Lakes to support us though. Simply talking about who we are and what we do helps, especially if you have friends or family members who work in health and social care or own a holiday home in one of our key seven destinations.
